Process for the GAYRAM (Fake) Band Poster

Process for the GAYRAM (Fake) Band Poster

So I want to start off with a fun fact that a client told me last year when I was doing her hair, did you know that about 8% of rams are actually gay?

Yeah, neither.

I went home that night after she told me and I started googling, and she is correct! It works out to be about 1 in 12 rams are in fact gay.

I knew what I had to do, I had to make a fake band poster, with touring companies, distributors, album tour and tour dates, of course. This Studio Story is the process of the GAYRAM Band Poster!

A similar story came about two years ago when I met someone who told me that lobsters were immortal, and sadly, with some research they aren’t really - I mean, technically... but I definitely thought IMMORTAL LOBSTER was a cool band name, much like how I know deep in my soul that GAYRAM is a sick band name. So of course I had to make a touring poster, what else am I going to do with my free will?

But wait, what happens to the rams if they are gay? It’s a great and sad question. The term for rams who don’t want to ram it in a ewe are called “shy breeders”, factually, they aren’t shy - they’re just not into... that ewe. Sadly, these rams usually get knocked out of the playing field (if you catch my drift...) but there is a cool gay farmer who buys them and uses their wool to make cool yarn! “Farmer Michael Stücke is looking after 21 cute, gay rams whose wool is used to make clothing items in aid of LGBTQ+ causes.” How sick is that?

Of course there needed to be an album tour!

And their title track is of course...

Which you may recognise from Forge's range of unhinged bumper stickers - because it is.

The poster design started with creating a mood board.

I put together this small mood board and found the themes of big type, one colour and black half tone / textured imagery. I then added in the record label, touring company, album name and the made up venues which I had a lot of fun brainstorming, if you were wondering

I chose this warm sand colour to make it feel a bit old and retro, it's giving faded newspaper which fits in with the 70'sesque vibe I was going for!

This one comes is A5 - A3, although there will be some loss of details at A5. I print these myself on my Epson Eco Tank Art Printer and you can grab one yourself here
